The Southeast Fairfax Development Corporation (SFDC) is excited to introduce a new event to the Richmond Hwy Corridor in Fairfax County. The ‘Original Summer Picnic’ will be a unique picnic event featuring live music, vendors, and food trucks.
It takes place Aug. 14 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on the lawn of the Original Mount Vernon High School (8333 Richmond Hwy.) and features the Original Moonlighters Band. Just bring a blanket and chairs to enjoy the free entertainment, multiple food trucks, and local artisan vendors.
“We wanted to do something original to help activate the sense of place and community on the Corridor,” says Evan Kaufman, Executive Director of the SFDC. “What’s better than an Original Summer Picnic, at Original Mt. Vernon High School, featuring the Original Moonlighters.”
Kaufman says the idea behind having the event earlier in the day was to beat the heat and provide an entertaining event when people have the most energy, between 10-2. “People can wake up a little late on a Saturday, then come dance, eat, and mingle in their community while still having the evening for relaxing or other events.”
The Original Mount Vernon High School is currently undergoing a rehab to house local non-profits, government/community services, a theatre, business incubator, and more. Additional details about the renovations will be provided at the event.
The SFDC is a 501c3 non-profit community development organization focused on the revitalization of the RT. 1 Corridor from Fort Belvoir to the Capital Parkway. With multiple new developments planned for the Corridor, along with the new Bus Rapid Transit stations, a major transformation is underway. The SFDC is specifically focused on site development, place-making, and business recruitment/retention.
The event is sponsored by christopher consultants ltd., Pennoni, Walsh, Colucci, Lubeley, Emrich & Walsh PC, Burke and Herbert Bank, Capital Investment Advisors, and Eastwood Properties.
