The American Horticultural Society (AHS) hosted its 26th Annual Gala Sept. 21, featuring a "Harvest of Health & Happiness" theme with Honorary Chair, Alexandria culinary coach Kristen Coffield.
Founded in 1922, AHS is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to making America a nation of gardeners, a land of gardens.
As the founder and owner of The Culinary Cure, Coffield helps people use the power of food to
change their lives. She believes a largely plant-based diet holds the key to enhanced wellness and disease prevention, and that creating powerful culinary habits can profoundly influence longevity.
The evening under the stars includes a cocktail reception, live, silent and online auctions and a three-course dinner with live music at AHS River Farm headquarters in Alexandria, at 7931 E. Boulevard.
Participants celebrated the society's work of positively impacting millions of lives for more than 95 years by raising awareness about the vital connection between people and plants, and inspiring its community to be responsible caretakers of the Earth – an impossible outcome without the public’s support.
Proceeds raised at the Gala provided vital funds for an array of key programs, most notably the stewardship of AHS' historic headquarters at River Farm and the Society’s education and outreach programs.
