One of Old Town Alexandria’s iconic buildings from the 1800s will be converted into new condos.
The current home of the Campagna Center, an organization that serves more than 2,000 Alexandria children and families, will be moving to make way for the residences, according to a report this week in the Washington Business Journal.
418 S. Washington St. was originally built in the early 1800s, according to Cushman & Wakefield, which facilitated the sale. The building is 17,000 square feet.
"We are being very careful to incorporate the existing building and to redevelop but not fundamentally change the way it looks by anybody coming by it," Bruce Baschuk, chairman of new building owner J Street Cos., told the Business Journal.
Information is not yet available on the condos, how many there will be and what amenities will be included.
