Several homes in Alexandria — the ones with the most beautiful landscaping — are receiving awards this summer.
The Alexandria Beautification Commission, which "promotes beautification of the City through advocacy, education and the celebration of community beautification efforts," announced its 2022 residential awards.
Several awards were given to homes that have reduced the amount of grass on their properties, replacing them with terraced plant beds and native plants. The two Old Town homes that won awards barely have "yards" at all, instead focusing on year-round visual interest with plants.
"The goal of the Residential awards is to celebrate the homes and residential communities who contribute to the beautification of the City through their gardens by utilizing native plans, sustainable approaches and creative landscape architecture," according to the Beautification Commission's Steve Cohen.
Photos of all the award-winning homes are available on the Beautification Commission's website.
