Ya-Gút St. Coffee & Treats “is the place for all things sweet,” said Dustin Ngo from behind the counter of one of Old Town North’s newest businesses.
The specialty shop opened in January at 682 N. St. Asaph St. next to its partner restaurant, Sunday in Saigon.
Ya-Gút St. is decorated in pink and white flower blossoms and display cases are full of mouthwatering items.
The shop serves coffee drinks, unique pastries, bubble tea and gelato. The gelato has been a big hit with customers according to Ngo, most likely because the gelato is made in house and is available in a variety of rotational flavors like whiskey sour green apple, Thai iced tea, and vegan chocolate. Particularly unique flavors like salted caramel with chili mango and salted plum are available for the adventurous palate.
Ngo said that the menu is frequently changing. They just started serving grab-and-go Vietnamese style bento box lunches last week and they plan to introduce shaved ice in a few months, he added.
Choices for bubble tea are extensive, from traditional Black Sugar Milk to Wild Orange Blossom with add-ons like cream cheese foam, popping bubbles or different flavors of jelly. Ngo suggested Night Fall, a butterfly rose tea with lavender and pink rose popping bubbles. You can choose to have the tea less sweet, normal sweet or more sweet.
Ngo said they were inspired to open after the Starbucks that was located at 683 N Washington St. closed, leaving a gap for people who live and work in Old Town North to get coffee, lunch or a sweet treat.
