Local author John Adam Wasowicz has a new book coming out — the third book in his popular Mo Katz mystery series.
Harambee Books & Artworks, Old Town’s only Black-owned and operated book store at 1132 Prince St., will celebrate Independent Bookstore Day on Saturday, Aug. 29, by hosting the release of Slaters Lane.
“Harambe Books is rich in Black heritage and I’m privileged to be invited to the store for the release of my newest book,” Wasowicz said.
Mo Katz, the fictional hero of the mystery series set in Old Town Alexandria, is the child of a racially mixed marriage. In ‘Slaters Lane,’ Katz reestablishes his relationship with his estranged parents upon learning that his African-American mother has contracted the coronavirus.
‘Slaters Lane’ takes place in April 2020 as COVID-19 courses through the community, forcing investigators to resort to online interviews, teleconferences, and a virtual search to solve the mystery behind a brutal attack on Easter Sunday.
Book lovers who purchase ‘Slaters Lane’ on Aug. 28 will be offered a free online copy of ‘Jones Point,’ the second book in the series, narrated by former WAMU radio personality Derek McGinty.
‘Slaters Lane’ will be narrated by WETA on-air host Nicole Lacroix with music by WETA producer and composer James Jacobs. The audiobook version of ‘Slaters Lane’ will debut in October, along with the ebook.
The release of Slaters Lane, including book signings, is 11:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29 at Harambee Books. Appropriate health and safety measures will be in place, including masks and gloves.
