There are many opportunities to make a difference and get involved in Alexandria this holiday season and throughout the year.
The Volunteer Alexandria Community Toy Drive is implemented in partnership with the Alexandria City’s Department of Community and Human Services and starts in November with the collection of toys, books, and games.
Each year, thousands of items are collect-ed, and this effort takes the generosity and collaboration of many community members, including businesses, schools, church-es and individuals. Every year, 650 children in more than 300 families are served.
Upon receiving toys for her children, Sandra, a single mother, who lost her job said: "I was so overwhelmed with kindness and understanding and it was such a blessing to be able to give my children Christmas gifts again. My daughter finally got the new doll she had been asking for."
Volunteer Alexandria encourages everyone age 6 and older to get involved.
