From Friday, Aug. 3 to Sunday, Aug. 5, Virginia will be celebrating its 3-day Sales Tax Holiday. The sale will begin precisely at 12:01 a.m. on Friday and end the following Sunday at 11:59 p.m.
During the holiday, Virginians can buy qualifying school supplies, clothing, footwear, hurricane and emergency preparation items, and Energy Star and WaterSense products without paying any sales tax.
Eligibility of products is dependent upon the category that the product falls under.
For qualified school supplies, such as backpacks, binders, crayons, and lunchboxes, prices cannot exceed $20 while most clothing and footwear items cannot exceed $100. Hurricane and emergency preparation products range from a $350 to a $1,000 limit on products such as portable generators, gas-powered chainsaws, batteries, tarps, duct tape, smoke detectors, and fire extinguishers.
Energy Star and WaterSense products such as air conditioners, ceiling fans, washing machines, dishwashers, refrigerators, toilets, and shower heads cannot exceed $2,500 and must be purchased for personal use only.
