The Tall Ship Providence will open its new home to the public this month.
Tickets are on sale now for Tall Ship Providence’s new interactive dockside tour, at the new Senator John Warner Maritime Heritage Center. The center will be on the Potomac River at Waterfront Park in Old Town Alexandria, south of where it had previously been docked.
The Tall Ship Providence Foundation purchased the replica ship in 2017 and restored it — turning it into a floating museum to host educational and entertainment programs. Providence was the first ship authorized by the Continental Congress for the Continental Navy, the first ship to bring Marines to foreign soil and the first American command of legendary Captain John Paul Jones. In addition, Providence appeared in two of the Pirates of the Caribbean films. The Maritime Heritage Center will feature an education center, naval history theater, observation deck and gift shop.
In addition to dockside tours, Tall Ship Providence will once again offer sunset sails, specialty sails and private charters. The Maritime Heritage Center will also be available as a venue rental. Tall Ship Providence will open for tours on Saturday, June 17 during Alexandria’s Portside Festival.
Ticket are on sale now for public tours and events starting June 17, including a Father's Day special event on June 18.
Private tours also are available and include a behind the scenes tour with a personal tour guide and meet-and-greet with Captain John Paul Jones. For more information on Tall Ship Providence’s history and special events, and to purchase tickets, visit TallShipProvidence.org.
