On Friday, Sept. 21, parking spaces in Alexandria will turn into micro parks for the day. The initiative is part of an “annual global revisioning of urban public space” that started in 2005 on the West Coast. The movement has spread worldwide and takes place the third Friday of September.
Arlington and the District of Columbia are also participating.
In Alexandria City, Park(ING) Day permit applications are due no later than Friday, Sept. 14.
Parking spots should be mid-block (away from intersections) on streets with speed limits of no more than 25 mph. The City encourages residents to consider adding shade and seating. More information is available here.
