Oktoberfest season is upon us — and a number of Alexandria restaurants and organizations are in on the party.
The tradition started in the 1800s in Germany, originally as a wedding celebration in 1810 that included copious amounts of beer, horse racing and festivities. The traditional has continued at its original location in Bavaria, but has spread worldwide and turned into a German heritage festival.
Alexandria restaurants, breweries and neighborhoods are planning the following events now through mid-October:
- Aslin Beer Oktoberfest (Saturday)
- National Landing Oktoberfest (Saturday)
- Oktoberfest Brunch at Alexandria Bier Garden (Sunday)
- Oktoberfest at Rustico (Saturday, Oct. 7)
- Oktoberfest Tap Takeover at Sweet Fire Donna's (Saturday, Oct. 14)
- Oktoberfest at Del Ray UMC (Saturday, Oct. 14)
