Lee-Fendall House Museum
Lee-Fendall House Museum's annual Easter Egg Hunt almost always sells out. There are six hunts over the course of Easter weekend.
It's not easy to score tickets to the White House Easter Egg Roll — but a local event supporting the Lee-Fendall House Museum is a great alternative.
The Lee-Fendall House's 19th annual Easter Egg Hunt takes place Easter Weekend. The popular event supporting the museum almost always sells out; tickets are for sale now through a link on the Lee-Fendall House website here.
Powered by volunteers, house docents are already preparing crafts for children for the event. Volunteers from the Junior League are also making preparations. In addition to crafts, the event includes photos with the Easter Bunny, the egg hunt, temporary tattoos and stickers for children, refreshments and prizes. Proceeds from the event support the museum's events, upkeep and more.
On Easter Sunday, "one of our favorite parts is seeing all the little ones in their Easter best," the Lee-Fendall House Museum staff member Megan Ritter.
Easter Sunday is the egg hunt weekend's busiest day, Ritter says, but tickets are still available for all six hunts from Friday, March 30 through Sunday, April 1.
Children up to age 12 are invited to participate in the Easter egg hunt (be sure to bring your own basket!) and older children and grown-ups are welcome to enjoy all the other activities. The hunts are scheduled for:
Friday, March 30: 3 p.m.
Saturday, March 31: 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
Sunday, April 1: 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
Payment in advance is required for all reservations. Tickets are $14 for children ages 1-12 or $10 for Friends of Lee-Fendall House. Tickets are $5 for ages 13-plus. Admission is free for ages 13-plus who are Friends of Lee-Fendall House (family membership and above). Infants under 1 year of age are admitted free with advance ticket only.
Friends of the Lee-Fendall House should make reservations by calling (703) 548-1789. To become a member, click here.
White House Easter Egg Roll Lottery Opens Friday
The lottery for this year's White House Easter Egg Roll opens Friday. The 140th annual event that got its start during the administration of President Rutherford B. Hayes takes place Monday, April 2 on the South Lawn of the White House.
Tickets are free and can be requested through the online lottery that opens at 12 p.m. Friday. The lottery closes Thursday, Feb. 15 at 12 p.m. A drawing will determine winner who will be notified by email no later than March 5.
You can also submit your name to volunteer at the event, using an online application. The deadline for applying is Feb. 23 at noon.
The custom of receiving a wooden Easter egg when leaving the event began in 1981 — an idea instituted by First Lady Nancy Reagan. Commemorative eggs for the 2018 event will be available for purchase in the coming months.
