1920s-style drinks, jazz and ragtime, a Charleston contest and costume contest are planned for the Lee-Fendall House's Sips and Secrets: A Speakeasy Night on Sept. 22.
The event, which has sold out in the past, will help the historic museum and garden raise the funds needed to restore the building's foundation.
The event will commemorate the Lee-Fendall House’s Prohibition-era history. Members of the Downham family, who once lived in the home, were prominent Alexandria liquor dealers before Prohibition.
The home, at the corner of North Washington and Oronoco streets in Old Town Alexandria, has stood for more than 230 years. The passage of time and constant vibrations from traffic on Washington Street have weakened the home's historic foundation.
For the first time, a general admission ticket for young professionals (ages 21 to 30) is available.
A VIP pre-reception, including a liquor tasting and tour of the home, is also scheduled. For tickets and more information, go to leefendallhouse.org.
