With just two notes, Academy Award-winner John Williams created a sense of fear for beachgoers that would last for decades. Head to Wolf Trap Saturday night for a screening of Steven Spielberg’s Jaws as the National Symphony Orchestra performs the iconic score.
The film — often called the first summer blockbuster — will be projected in HD onto big screens in-house and on the lawn.
"Jaws" was released June 20, 1975. Did you know:
- Three mechanical sharks were created for the shark portrayed in the film.
- The sharks were referred to as "Bruce" after Spielberg's lawyer.
- The movie was shot at Martha's Vineyard.
- Brody's line 'We're going to need a bigger boat" was ad-libbed by actor Roy Scheider.
- Peter Benchley, the author of the novel "Jaws" was once a reporter for The Washington Post. He makes a cameo in the film as a reporter.
- Jon Voight, Timothy Bottoms and Jeff Bridges were all considered for the part played by Richard Dreyfuss.
- The poster for the film was from the paperback book cover of Jaws by artist Roger Kastel.
