Next month, Alexandria will come alive for the Halloween season with spooky-décor adorning brick-lined streets and centuries-old sites. Hear ghost stories, legends, folklore and more on the ever-popular Alexandria Colonial Tours’ Ghost & Graveyard Tour throughout the fall season and check out the Halloween-themed events below.
Saturday, Oct. 28:
• Enjoy Halloween-themed events hosted by tall ship Providence at the newly opened Sen. John Warner Maritime Heritage Center. The Ghost Ship Providence is an adults-only costume party with a DJ, costume contest and more (there is a waitlist), while the Halloween Howl at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. is for children ages 1 to 13 with story time, crafts and more with legendary Captain John Paul Jones. • In Carlyle, head to the 3rd Annual Carlyle Halloween Bar Crawl featuring festive cocktails, signature party favors, costume contests and photo opps. The event is from 2 - 6 p.m. at four Carlyle District and Eisenhower East locations: Whiskey & Oyster, Tequila & Taco, Sweet Fire Donna's and Lost Boy Cider!
• Bring the whole family to the Old Town Trick or Treat, organized by the Old Town Business Association. From 11 a.m - 4 p.m., children can stop by Hooray for Books at 1555 King St. for a treat map and visit Alexandria businesses for free candy.
• Solve a series of clues and puzzles to unravel the identity of Carlyle’s mummy during the Mystery of Carlyle’s Mummy event at Carlyle House from 6 - 8 p.m. Tickets are available here.
Sunday, Oct. 29:
• Bring your four-legged companions to Old Town Business Association’s Doggie Trick or Treat for goodies from some of your favorite Old Town boutiques. The event is from 1 - 4 p.m. and starts at The Dog Park, 705 King St.
• The annual Del Ray Halloween Parade returns once again, where children, adults and pets are invited to march and show off their finest and scariest Halloween garb. Learn more here.

Monday, Oct. 30:
Halloween Tales at River Farm — Acclaimed actor and retired jurist William T. Newman Jr. heads an all-star cast of storytellers who will regale book lovers with narrations from the popular — and slightly spooky — Old Town Mystery Series on Monday, October 30, from 6 to 7 p.m., at River Farm, 7931 E. Boulevard Dr. Classical WETA broadcast personality Nicole Lacroix and the dynamic ghost storyteller duo of Nikisha Kozik and Jimmy Meritt with Alexandria Colonial Tours will also participate in the story telling. And The Female Stranger will make a guest appearance. The program is free and open to adults and children. Halloween costume attire is encouraged.
