This fall, enjoy a series of free performances at the Mirror Mirror, the interactive public art installation in Alexandria’s Waterfront Park. The series is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets but pets should be left at home.
The dance group Orange Grove Dance (http://www.orangegrovedance.com/) perform on two Fridays, Sept. 6 and 13 at 8 p.m. and two Saturdays, Sept. 7 and 14, at 6 p.m. and again at 8 p.m.
According to their website, the dance group was “built on the ideals of integrating dance, design, film, and movement with all communities.” Their performance will specifically explore how Alexandria’s physical location has shaped the city’s community.
On Saturday, Oct. 5 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 6 at 8 p.m., electric violinist David Schulman (http://www.quietlifemotel.com/) will perform his original, site-specific work at the installation. Schulman’s website describes his musical style as “nocturnal, reflective, funky, and cinematic” and a “weave of jazz harmonies, shimmering orchestral textures, and frolicsome grooves.” Operatic vocalist and composer, Bonnie Lander, will join Schulman for Saturday’s performance and experimental alto saxophonist, Sarah Marie Hughes, will join Schulman on Sunday.
More information about the Mirror Mirror installation, the artists, and the schedule, including rain dates, can be found on the City of Alexandria’s website at www.alexandriava.gov/recreation/arts/info/default.aspx?id=110220.
