St. Patrick's Day is Wednesday, March 17 and although the pandemic means Alexandria won't celebrate with its traditional St. Patrick's Day parade this year, there are plenty of events coming up for anyone celebrating the Irish to party on the big day:
- Shamrocks & Shenanigans Virtual Four Mile Run/Walk
March 1 – March 31 | Virtual
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day anywhere with this spirited and virtual four-miler event. The “race” can be completed anytime during March, and each distance can be completed one at a time or all at once. No matter how you complete it, participants should wear their finest St. Patrick’s Day attire. Spots are limited, so register online, choose a location, and when you finish, submit your results and earn your medal.
- Bread & Water Company’s Lucky Treats

Your favorite cereal growing up can now be enjoyed in a portable, unconventional way. For a limited time, Bread & Water Company is serving Lucky Charm sugar cookie bars with a lucky charm ganache to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. In addition, Guinness cupcakes will be available to compliment any person or leprechaun’s favorite food group. Orders can be placed online or in-person.
- Augie’s Irish Specials

Pregame St. Patrick’s Day at Augie’s, where guests can enjoy cocktail specials and a Guinness or two. For St. Patrick’s Day and Saturday, March 20, the first 30 guests will get a free Guinness jello shot to get the party started early.

With the weather starting to warm up, there’s no better feeling than cracking open a beer and enjoying the great outdoors. Along with the classic green beer on St. Patrick’s Day, Aslin will feature a delicious Irish treat: An herbed Irish bacon banger with caramelized onions, topped with Aslin Irish Stout Gravy and whole grain mustard slaw. Enjoy at their beer garden or at home at your own personal sanctuary.
- The Guinness Challenge

Guinness on St. Patrick’s Day is a must, so have a drink for a good cause. Murphy’s and O’Connell’s Irish pubs are battling it out in the Guinness Challenge to see which can sell 10,000 pints of Guinness and raise $5,000 for Christ House Food Pantry of Alexandria. Support local businesses and charities the best way: With a beer and some friends.
- Murphy’s Live Music

For decades, Murphy’s has brought authentic Irish music and local entertainment to Old Town’s nightlife scene. What’s a better way to ring in St. Patrick’s Day than live music, beer and Irish food? Along with holiday specials and a stellar happy hour, Murphy’s’ will have live Irish rock, bluegrass, and acoustic music from artists like Pat Garvey, Pat Carroll, Poehemia, and Luke Shaffer.
- St. Patrick’s Day Kids Craft
March 17, 4-5 p.m. | 724 Jefferson St.
Kidcreate Studio will help kids learn the elements of color theory as they paint a rainbow with a leprechaun’s pot of gold at the end. The event is for children between the ages of 5 and 12, and is $25 dollars for non-members, $22 dollars for members. Registration is required.
- Bingo at Barkhaus
March 17, 5-8 p.m. | 529 E. Howell Ave.
Enjoy bingo and beers with your furry friend at the D.C. metro area's only dog bar. The first game will begin at 6 p.m. with multiple opportunities to win prizes, drink holiday beverages and take pictures at the St. Patty’s themed backdrop. Reservations are not required, but tickets are first-come, first-serve and sold at Barkhaus. Tickets to the public are $5, and free to members.
