'12 Ingredients Over the Generations' world premier is at the 2020 Alexandria Film Festival.
The Alexandria Film Festival kicks off Thursday, Nov. 12 with screenings in the comfort of your home and the ability to interact digitally with more filmmakers than ever before.
Both individual screening tickets and all-festival passes are available through AlexFilmFest.com.
The festival this year includes 45 short and feature-length fiction and nonfiction films, representing every genre. Two were directed by Oscar-winning or Oscar-nominated directors; women directed nearly half.
Thirteen of the filmswere directed by filmmakers in the D.C. area, including two by local high school students.
“We will miss the vitality and intimacy of the in-person screening environment,” festival chair Margaret Wohler said, “but there are many upsides, including more flexibility for our patrons to watch films over a two-week period, instead of a few days, and no having to choose between films screening in different theaters. Everyone can be a true film fest buffand catch every film!”
Alexandria is not unique this year in switching to a virtual format due to the coronavirus pandemic.
That may be a good thing, said Alexandria Film Festival founder Patti North: “Other film festivals that have gone virtual have reported huge increases over their in-person audiences, and we hope to see a surge as well. One of the advantages of this format is people do not have to choose among films in adjacent theaters, and they will have more time to see the film after they purchase a ticket.”
Local filmmakers this year include: Sam Hampton (showing the world premier of 12 Ingredients Over the Generations), David Malouf (Leave a Message, world premier), Matt Blackerby (Play Nice, world premier), Sujay Khona (The Savings Genie) and nearly two dozen others.
There are about 50 films in this year’s festival.
The festival’s schedule and additional details will be released soon. Put yourself on the Alexandria Film Festival email list here to be the first to know when the movies are released.
