The Alexandria Drive-In is returning on March 5 for a third series of classic movies with a nostalgic twist.
In 2020, the Alexandria Drive-In launched as a not-for-profit venture led by ALX Community with significant support from The Garden (by Building Momentum), corporate sponsors and hundreds of volunteers.
The Alexandria Drive-In raised more than $100,00 for local nonprofits.
“I have never been more inspired with this community coming together as we did with the Alexandria Drive-In,” said Kelly Grant, Partner at ALX Community and founder of the Alexandria Drive-In. “With ALX Community opening its third location, we are excited that Athena Rapid Response is going to carry the torch and continue the Alexandria Drive-In. Stay tuned for many new community-based initiatives that ALX will pioneer in 2021.”
This year, the Alexandria Drive-In will be led by The Garden, which runs Athena Rapid Response, and proceeds from this movie series will benefit The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria and Athena Rapid Response.
“Since the launch last August, the Alexandria Drive-In has quickly become a community staple, providing families and households with a safe activity during such a difficult time,” said Allen Brooks, Alexandria Drive-In board member. “The nostalgia of drive-ins mixed with the desire to be around others safely is something special, and we’re happy to be able to bring the community back together while fundraising for the Athena Rapid Response Innovation Lab as well as the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria.”
The March movie lineup includes classics such as Jurassic Park, Back to the Future, The Princess Bride, the Greatest Showman and Remember the Titans. A schedule is available on the Alexandria Drive-In website at www.alexandriadrivein.com.
April movies will be announced in coming weeks. Tickets are $40 per car and are available online now through www.alexandriadrivein.com. Gates open one hour before show time and close 10 minutes before show time. Masks are required when checking in at the gate, and must be worn when picking up food and going to the restroom.
Food trucks including DC Slices, Chix N Stix, Lattimore’s Funnel Cakes, Popped Republic, and one weekly rotating food truck will be present. Alexandria Drive-In has partnered with food truck platform Goodynd to help provide an onsite ordering platform for guests to get their favorite movie snacks safely.
The Drive-In is located in the parking lots of the Victory Center, 5001 Eisenhower Ave. For more information about how to purchase tickets, future movies, parking, and other information, visit alexandriadrivein.com.
