Alexandria is once again hosting multiple local events celebrating Oktoberfest, the annual festival in Munich, Germany.
Interestingly, the very first Oktoberfest in 1824 featured... no beer. Instead, a horse race was the center of the festivities.
No horse races in Alexandria this year, but here's a roundup of local Oktoberfest events:
- Aslin Beer Co. debuts a new brew during its Oktoberfest celebration that starts Wednesday, Sept. 29 and continues through Sunday, Oct. 3.
- Trademark Eat & Drink is featuring a four-course Oktoberfest feast Friday, Oct. 1.
- The Lena’s Beer Garden Oktoberfest festivities start Friday, Oct. 1 and continue all month with a different local Oktoberfest brew available each week.
- Port City Brewing Company’s Oktoberfest-themed brew is a Bavarian-style wheat ale pouring hazy golden with fluffy white foam, tinged with aromas of clove and spice with a softer note of ripe banana. The brewery's Oktoberfest celebration is Saturday, Oct. 2.
- Saturday, Oct. 2 at 6 p.m., the Eisenhower Partnership will drink to live music at The Garden at Building Momentum in the Eisenhower West neighborhood.
- One of Alexandria's most unique restaurants, the Village Brauhaus, will tap imported Bavarian kegs featuring the best lineup throughout the Wies’n season. Live music is coming the weekend of Oct. 9 and 10.
Prost!
