The 10th Annual Taste of Del Ray was moved into the Mount Vernon Recreation Center Sunday afternoon, but those who got tickets to the sold-out event didn't let the rain deter them. Seventeen restaurants prepared 1,000 tastes each of signature dishes, new items and experimental dishes for the sold-out event.
Three judges tasted them all and determined three award winners, plus an honorable mention. Attendees also voted with tickets for their favorites.
The awards were as follows:
- 1st Place: Del Ray Cafe (cold corn soup, cold tomato soup and beignet dessert)
- 2nd Place: Kaizen Tavern (citrus salmon poke)
- 3rd Place: The Junction Bakery & Bistro (Cubano sandwich)
- Honorable Mention: M.E. Swings (bourbon barrel aged nitro cold brew)
- People's Choice Award: The Junction Bakery & Bistro
The judges were Beth Lawton of Alexandria Living Magazine, Mary Wadland of The Zebra and Deb Riley of The Alexandria Times.
The Mount Vernon Rec Center, originally scheduled to be closed Sunday, opened just for the event.
