Old Town Alexandria will see a new restaurant open at 1106 King St., in the spot that formerly housed Hunting Creek Steakhouse.
While there are few details about menu items, there is a big hint in its Twitter handle @EatAugies: Augie's Mussel House and Patio.
According to Augie's website at www.eataugies.com, "Inspired by St. Augustine, the Patron Saint of Brewers, Augie’s Mussel House on the Patio in historic Old Town, Alexandria blends traditional Belgium cuisine with a modern twist. Our creative mussel offerings can be thoughtfully paired with one of our extensive Ale selections. Whether you are enjoying a waffle and frites or one of our many brews on the festive patio, Augie’s has you covered!"
Augie's plans a summer pop-up patio while construction progresses on the restaurant.
Most recently owned by Alexandria businessman Jeff Yates Enterprises, Hunting Creek closed its doors March 6. Yates passed away Feb. 22 after a battle with cancer. The gourmet steakhouse opened in February 2015.
The new restaurant will be helmed by Chef Eric Reid of Del Ray Pizzeria.
The steak house and bar sat 108 inside and 45 on an adjacent outdoor brick patio.
The owners of the new restaurant are Common Plate Hospitality LLC (Justin Sparrow, Larry Walston and Chad Sparrow). Reid is a 10 percent owner in the enterprise.
