Update April 25, 2018: A pop-up preview of the restaurant is open Wednesday, April 25 through Saturday, April 28. The pop-up opens at 4:30 p.m. daily. The full restaurant will open May 3, according to signs on the door. The preview menu includes appetizers to share, several tacos, fajitas and more. The address is 540 John Carlyle St.
A new Mexican restaurant is coming to the Carlyle neighborhood.
"Mango Mike" Anderson is bringing the eatery Tequila and Taco to 540 John Carlyle St., according to paperwork filed with the City.
The restaurant will take the place of Pho 33, which served up Vietnamese cuisine and closed Jan. 31.
The new restaurant will serve mixed drinks in addition to wine and beer. Seating capacity for the new restaurant is up to 150 (95 seats inside and 24 outside). New hours are proposed as Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to midnight.
Anderson will be the owner, along with wife Donna Anderson and business partner Bill Blackburn.
The restaurant will be the second for the Andersons on John Carlyle Street. Sweet Fire Donna's serves up barbecue at 510 John Carlyle St.
The Andersons are known for their restaurants in Alexandria, including Mango Mike's which served the community for 20 years before closing its doors in 2013. Anderson also owns Pork Barrel BBQ in Del Ray and several other restaurants.
Another Mexican restaurant, Casa Tequila Bar & Grill, is set to open nearby at 1701 Duke St.
