A new restaurant called Fish Town & Veggie Heaven is under construction in Alexandria.
The restaurant is located on Richmond Highway across from the Potomac Yard shopping center, though the technical address is 410 E. Glebe Road.
The restaurant's space was formerly occupied by Hebir Exotic Ethiopian Restaurant and it is next to the GQ $2.50 Cleaners. Hebir closed earlier this year.
It is not clear if the new Alexandria restaurant is related to the Veggie Heaven restaurants in New Jersey or to the Fish Town restaurants in Los Angeles.
Fishtown is also a neighborhood in Philadelphia named after shad fisheries in that area. Here in Alexandria, Fishtown most often refers to a seasonal shantytown community of wharf laborers who worked in the port economy of Alexandria.
