Animal Welfare League of Alexandria
6-year-old Rico has learned a lot while he’s been staying at the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA). He’s learned that showing off his Sit and Shake will get him some of the tastiest treats. He’s learned that he looks especially dapper in a bow tie. He’s learned that splashing in the puppy pool is the best way to spend a warm summer day. But most of all, he’s learned that while friends are one of the most important things in life, it’s no replacement for a family and a home to call his own.
Rico is observing his one-year anniversary at the AWLA this weekend, and his pals -- the staff and volunteers at the Vola Lawson Animal Shelter -- are celebrating 365 days of great moments with their buddy. From photo sessions to painting parties, foster visits and long walks by the river, every moment with Rico is one to treasure, but the moment they know they will all remember most is when Rico finally goes home.
Because of the support of a generous community, the AWLA is lucky that they do not have to place restrictions on the amount of time an animal can stay at the shelter while looking for his or her family. This means that they can give Rico all the time he needs to find the family that is just right for him, and in the meantime, they can help him work on new tricks, make new friends and experience his life to the fullest.
Rico is a private pup and will be commemorating this day with a few close shelter friends, but if you’d like to help Rico and his canine companions celebrate, please consider donating an item or two from Rico’s Celebration Wishlist.
And if you’re interested in learning more about or even meeting with the shelter’s most popular pup, please email or stop by the AWLA to see the one, the only Rico!
