The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA) is getting ready to Clear the Shelters Aug. 18 as part of a nationwide initiative.
Last year’s Clear the Shelter day helped 70 animals find forever homes, and the Clear It Forward campaign raised more than $11,000.
In addition to dogs and cats, there are rabbits, guinea pigs, mice and other animals available for adoption. Adoption fees for all animals will be waived on Aug. 18. The shelter will open an hour early, at 11 a.m., that day, and it will be open until 5 p.m.
If you can’t take an animal home, you can still help with the Clear It Forward by donating to help defray costs throughout the year for animals in need. AWLA is asking residents to pledge an amount either on a “per animal adopted” basis or a fixed amount. Read more about Clear It Forward here.
