The dog-walking and pet-sitting service Rover and real estate company Redfin named Alexandria the 16th most dog-friendly city in the United States.
According to the companies, Rover looked at its own data in 14,000 cities across the country based on the number of walks, distance and other data from its dog walkers.
Redfin then "recorded how often the keyword ‘dog’ appeared in the online listing descriptions of homes for sale, typically to note that a property was dog-friendly, close to dog parks, etc. We also included each dog-friendly city’s Walk Score®, to highlight how easy it is to treat your dog to his or her favorite activity."
Combining the data from the two companies, Alexandria came in 16th place.
The most dog-friendly city according to the study is rainy Seattle. (Apparently "wet dog smell" was not a factor.)
Washington, DC came in fifth place. Arlington came in 14th place.

Earlier this year, Expedia rated Alexandria highly in the dog-friendly vacation category thanks to pet-friendly menus, hotels, parks and King Street. (See Alexandria One of the 10 Most Dog-Friendly Vacation Destinations in the Nation for details on that distinction.)
