Ahead of National Dog Day on Aug. 26, LawnStarter looked at 200 cities and ranked them based on how easy it is to live with a dog.
Alexandria came out as the third-best city on the list, factoring in the share of dog-friendly rental properties, dog parks and pet trainers per 100,000 residents and other factors.
- Share of Dog-Friendly Rental Properties - 17th
- Dog Parks per 100,000 Residents - 1st
- Pet Trainers per 100,000 Residents - 7th
- Number of Pet Transportation Services - 31st
- Average Hourly Pet Groomer Rate (as % of Average Household Income) - 6th
The top two cities were in Florida: Orlando in first place and Tampa in second place. Another Virginia city — Richmond — cracked the top 10.
Alexandria ranked 25th in the nation on the LawnStarter list of Best Cities for Cat Lovers.
