April 29 is the second annual Love Your Pet Day event in Alexandria — a block party celebrating responsible pet ownership with food trucks, children's entertainment, interactive demonstrations and more.
Of course, the event is pet-friendly. It is hosted on Roth and Colvin streets from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, April 29. The kick-off will be in the Wholistic Hound Academy parking lot at 18 Roth Street. (Attendee parking will be available at Bishop Ireton High School.)
Virginia Delegate Charniele Herring and Virginia State Senator Adam Ebbin are expected to attend.
According to an event press release on the Del Ray Business Association website:
Alexandria is ranked one of the most dog friendly towns on the East Coast according to DogFriendly.com and is home to 18 off-leash public dog parks and more than 2,000 pet-friendly rooms in extended stay properties and hotels.
The block party will give attendees the opportunity to meet with organizations that focus on various aspects of responsible pet ownership; rescues that work to match a pet with home and lifestyle; trainers to offer techniques to ensure pets exhibit appropriate behavior; vendors of products and services that improve the life of pets, and more!
Kids can get a sense for responsible pet ownership by adopting a stuffed animal from the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria and taking it to different stops on the Block Party route for grooming, socialization vaccinations, etc.
Dog owners can sign up to take the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test—a prerequisite for volunteering with many therapy groups—which is all about “responsible owners, well-mannered dogs.”
Attendees can see how others have engaged their dogs in stimulating activities such as freestyle dance and agility. At each stop on the route, attendees can earn a stamp on their event map with the first 100 completed maps turned in for a gift bag full of goodies from participating businesses.
