City of Alexandria
The diversity of culture and abundance of nature and parks are among resident's favorite thing about Alexandria's far West End, according to a community survey.
What's the worst thing? Traffic congestion. (In a conflict, however, the "ease of getting around" was the fourth best thing about the region.) Charts of answers to the 'best' and 'worst' questions are below.
The survey was part of a planning process that seeks to "engage the community to create a vision for the area’s long-term future and explore topics such as housing affordability, equity, culture, land use, mobility, pedestrian and cyclist safety and accessibility, and connecting existing and future open spaces," according to city officials.
Close to 1,000 responded to the recent City of Alexandria community poll regarding long-term plans for Alexandria's far West End. About 75% of the respondents said they live in the West End project area. Another 18 percent said they live close to the project area (see map below).
City officials want to "update the long-term vision for the 1992 Alexandria West Small Area Plan and integrate the 2012 Beauregard Small Area Plan. Creating an updated community vision for the future allows us to proactively plan for change and prepare for challenges and opportunities in the years to come," according to the area plan website (at alexandriava.gov/AlexandriaWest).
Complete survey results are on the project website.
The next community meeting is set for March 27 — details will be posted on the project website in the coming weeks.
