U.S. Sen. Mark Warner and Rep. Don Beyer, both residents of Alexandria, handily won their re-election bids Tuesday with voters giving them a hefty percentage of the vote.
In remarks Tuesday night after his declared win, Warner called on Congress to pass another COVID-19 relief package and said it's time to heal the cultural divide in the nation. "That means ending attack rhetoric and mean-spiritedness that too often has infected our political discourse," he said, flanked by his wife Lisa Collis and Sen. Tim Kaine and his wife Anne Holton, a GMU professor, in a video posted online by The Hill.
"We've got to stop the name-calling and start the healing," he said.
The Associated Press declared Warner the winner at 7 p.m. Here's a breakdown from the state Department of Elections with 2,563 of 2,585 state precincts reporting.
His opponent, Daniel Gade, is a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel and college professor.
