Mayor Justin Wilson hosted a living-room virtual town hall Thursday evening, answering questions from residents about testing, the city's revised budget and more.
Like other jurisdictions, Alexandria has some limits on how much coronavirus testing local medical facilities can do — test kits are still in short supply. Personal protective equipment is also in short supply, making it difficult for Alexandria to safely set up a drive-thru testing facility.
In addition to health concerns, residents brought up questions about the City's budget, which went from expecting a $5 million to $10 million surplus in January to now expecting a $35+ million shortfall this year. Economic issues will continue into 2021 and possibly beyond. While some projects like the renovation of MacArthur Elementary School may proceed on schedule, other major projects could be delayed.
