Later this month, local officials will break ground for a new Topgolf near National Harbor. It is expected to open in the spring of 2019.
The groundbreaking on Friday, June 22, will be next to Harborside Hotel, where Topgolf is creating a new target golf venue and restaurant off Oxon Hill Road in Prince George’s County.
Topgolf got its start in Kingstowne before growing internationally. Topgolf is a technology-driven driving range, where golfers try to hit targets from tee bays and earn points. The venues also have a restaurant and lounge, pro shop and more, and Topgolf locations often often golf lessons and host charity events. There are now 41 Topgolf locations worldwide.
Rumors remain that the original Kingstowne location, one of Topgolf’s smallest in the nation, will not stay open much longer. Local management has not confirmed any plans.
However, the property owner, 6625 South Van Dorn Street, LLC, has filed plans with the Fairfax County government to replace Topgolf Alexandria with townhomes, multifamily units and commercial space.
In 2017, Adrienne Chance, Topgolf spokesperson, said the company had an agreement with the property owner that if another site was located in the region and rezoning of the original site was approved, the new site “could be a relocation of our Alexandria venue.”
