Stratford University will be shutting down operations, leaving some local students to find alternative education options.
The Department of Education reportedly decertified the schools accreditor, Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools, and the school is not allowed to enroll new students. The university was certified to operate by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia. Culinary and nursing programs were accredited by other organizations.
Students at the Alexandria campus are meeting with administrators today to discuss their continuing education options.
Stratford University offers degrees in business administration, nursing and healthcare, hospitality and computer science. In addition to the Alexandria campus at 2900 Eisenhower Ave., the school has campuses in Woodbridge, Virginia and Baltimore, Maryland. Campuses in Glen Allen, Virginia Beach and Newport News closed in 2019. The school also, at one point, had a campus in Falls Church.
The school also lists a campus in New Delhi, India.
Stratford University was established in 1976 and most students work full-time jobs while attending school.
