Spring2ACTion — Alexandria's Day of Giving — is Wednesday.
The 24-hour online giving day serves as a lifeline for numerous local nonprofits, and this year, more than 200 local nonprofit organizations are participating.
Through Spring2ACTion.org, individuals and companies can choose to give to a specific nonprofit or support a cause area.
Last year, Spring2ACTion raised more than $2.8 million for local nonprofit organizations.
"ACT is Alexandria's community foundation which means we are a grant maker, community convener and a nonprofit. Every year we need to raise funds for our operations so we can continue to:
- catalyze generosity in Alexandria and beyond;
- amplify the voices of local leaders;
- optimize systems of support for Alexandrians; and
- ensure that Alexandria's nonprofits are strong with events like Spring2ACTion!"
In addition, this year may be particularly important to some nonprofits. "This year, the urgency to donate is greater than ever," said Leeann Napoleon-Turkal, Development Program Manager at ACT for Alexandria. "The American Rescue Plan provided essential aid for pandemic recovery, but as these funds dwindle, nonprofits and our neighbors they support are left grappling with uncertainty. The looming threat of reduced resources jeopardizes the vital services and resources they provide to the community."
Businesses Get Involved
Multiple businesses and organizations are hosting giving parties and events, and multiple restaurants are giving a portion of the day's proceeds to Spring2ACTion or a specific nonprofit. To learn more about what's happening, visit Spring2ACTion's event page here.
