Alexandrians opened their wallets in a big way this month, including on Spring2ACTion day Wednesday.
Final results are still being tabulated, but as of Thursday morning, ACT for Alexandria reported that residents and people across the country donated $2,835,391 to 187 organizations and nonprofits. The donations came from 7,708 people giving 12,154 individual gifts.
The total amount smashes last year's record of more than $2.53 million from 7,173 individuals.
This was the 13th year of Spring2ACTion, a city-wide fundraiser organized by ACT for Alexandria, the community's foundation. It was the fourth year in a row that Spring2ACTion broke its own previous records.
