Through Spring2ACTion, 7,325 donors raised $2.86 million for 188 nonprofits and charities this year by 11:59 p.m. yesterday — breaking a record, again.
Spring2ACTion, Alexandria’s Giving Day, was a 24-hour online (and in person) event that encourages people to donate to nonprofits and charitable causes in Alexandria. Last year, the event raised $2.83 million by the end of the Giving Day.
Giving will remain open through the end of Sunday, April 28, and Spring2ACTion was, as of Thursday morning, up to $2.88 million and counting.
“Spring2ACTion offers an opportunity for action for our community. By coming together tosupport local nonprofits, we made a tangible difference in the lives of our neighbors and weare building a stronger, more resilient Alexandria for generations to come. Together, we arecreating positive change and transforming lives,” said ACT for Alexandria's Heather Peeler.
While there is an opportunity for early giving about two weeks before the official day, most money comes in on the actual event day.
"For the past 13 years, Alexandrians have come together to show their support for the community they love. Since 2011, more than 75,000 generous donors have given nearly $20M to almost 200 nonprofits through Spring2ACTion. Last year, 8,331 donors gave $2.96M to 186 nonprofits serving Alexandria," according to ACT for Alexandria, the Alexandria Community Foundation.
