Spring2ACTion, Alexandria's Giving Day, will now take place on April 15.
ACT for Alexandria decided to move up the 2020 online giving day to from April 29 to April 15 in order to meet the immediate and urgent needs of the community in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Early giving opportunities start April 3 through spring2ACTion.org.
Spring2ACTion is a 24-hour online giving event that calls on individuals to make a difference in their community by connecting them to local causes they’re passionate about through an easy-to-use giving platform.
"Alexandria’s nonprofits are on the front lines in responding to this public health crisis,” said Heather Peeler, ACT for Alexandria President and CEO.
“Like many small businesses, nonprofits are facing an existential financial threat. Through Spring2ACTion they can raise the critical funds they need to purchase supplies, pay rent, and reconfigure their programs and services to support our neighbors in need.”
This year is the 10-year anniversary of Alexandria’s Giving Day.
Since 2011, 65,000 generous donors have given more than $10M to 160+ nonprofits through Spring2ACTion, making it one of the most successful city-wide giving days in the country.
Last year, 9,816 individuals gave during Spring2ACTion, raising a record-breaking $2 million for 162 nonprofit organizations through www.Spring2ACTion.org.
ACT for Alexandria's goal for 2020 is to engage 10,000 donors to give $2.2 million. Although Spring2ACTion has historically featured in-person events in addition to online giving, this year all activities will take place virtually.
ACT for Alexandria has been asking Alexandrians for donations through its own ACT Now COVID-19 relief fund, raising several hundred thousand dollars already, including funds from the City of Alexandria and Amazon.
