A new memory care center, Silverado Alexandria, celebrates its grand opening Wednesday from 4-7 p.m.
The Alexandria location, at 2807 King St., is the first memory care center Silverado has opened on the East Coast. The Irvine, Calif.-based company plans to add additional communities in the metro DC area, according to a recent report by Senior Housing News.
The Alexandria memory care center came about after Ben Firestone of Blueprint Real Estate Advisors brought together Silverado President, Chairman and CEO Loren Shook and Cambridge Healthcare CEO Graham Adelman.
Cambridge is the owner of Woodbine, which sits next door to Silverado Alexandria. Cambridge was in the midst of developing a memory care center at the site and decided to bring Silverado in as a partner as a focused memory care partner.
Silverado currently has 37 communities specializing in serving those with Alzheimer's and other memory-impairing conditions. The company also includes 10 Silverado hospice sites, including Palliative care and six Silverado Home Care offices.
The Alexandria memory care centers offer engagement programs based on residents' preferences. Activities include music therapy, weekly outings, social gatherings with families. Find out more about the center at their website here.
