A seasonal skating rink, sports courts, a playground, grassy areas and restaurant pavilions are all a part of the plans for the redevelopment of the former Landmark Mall.
On Sept. 4, the Planning Commission will consider Development Special Use Permit requests for a variety of outdoor areas in what will become "The WestEnd" on the former Landmark Mall property.
The new development is replacing the closed-and-torn-down Landmark Mall on 51 acres in Alexandria's West End. It will include a new Inova Alexandria Hospital in addition to residential, retail, office and other uses. Only the garage from the old Landmark Mall remains and contruction workers are working on utilities and grading now for the area.
There will be 4.4 acres of open, publicly-accessible space in the area.
