President Joe Biden will be visiting an undisclosed vaccination site in Alexandria at some point on Tuesday, according to news reports.
Politico first reported: “Biden will visit a vaccination site in Alexandria, Va., and deliver remarks about the vaccine effort Tuesday.” There were no other details available regarding time or location for security reasons.
In March, Vice President Kamala Harris visited Fibre Space in Old Town to talk about how the pandemic has affected small businesses.
Alexandria has received praise for its mass vaccination site operations, including those in Potomac Yard and one at the Victory Center on Eisenhower Avenue, a joint venture with Inova Health System and Fairfax County.
Alexandria has moved into vaccinating people in phase “1c” and vaccinations will be available to all adult residents starting April 18. City of Alexandria Residents who have not yet registered may do so through the Virginia Health Department at vaccinate.virginia.gov; Fairfax County residents may register through that health department here.
Vaccine availability has increased significantly in the past few weeks here in Alexandria, statewide and across the country. The United States recently set a new record, delivering vaccine doses to more than 4 million people in one single day.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is raising an alarm that a fourth wave of coronavirus infections may be coming, and unlike previous waves it will primarily affect younger people who have not yet received a vaccine. Locally, health officials are concerned that spring break travel may lead to another increase in cases.
In the City of Alexandria and in Fairfax County, the seven-day average number of new daily cases reported is approximately where it was in early November, before the United States saw a surge in cases caused in part by holiday travel.
