The Virginia Dept. of Health has been updating ZIP code data for COVID-19 cases statewide. Here in the Alexandria area, the 22306 ZIP code, which includes the Groveton and Hybla Valley neighborhoods, has the highest percentage of positive cases of tests given.
The 22150 (west of Kingstowne into Springfield) and the 22305 (Arlandria) ZIP codes also have high percentages of positive tests — more than 32 percent — compared to the rest of the greater Alexandria region.
The lowest percent positive tests are in the 22301 (Del Ray) and 22315 (Kingstowne) ZIP codes, with about 11.1 percent positive test results.
The 22307 ZIP code (Belle Haven and Belle View) has a 14 percent positive test results rate, the third-lowest rate in the area.
Compared to Virginia
Across the state, infection rates vary widely. Northern Virginia, Richmond and parts of the Eastern Shore have had a higher number of infections than southwest Virginia, for example.
In Northern Virginia overall, the 7-day average of percent of positive tests is moving downward. That's a key indicator for state health officials and Gov. Ralph Northam to allow non-essential businesses to start reopening.
The spike in the number of tests in the past few days was thanks to a mass testing effort in Fairfax County and Alexandria over the three-day weekend.

Statewide, the seven-day average trendline is also moving down:

Data by ZIP Code
Of course, there are several caveats around the data, according to VDH:
- ZIP code data may not be available for every coronavirus case, so these totals may be lower than reality.
- ZIP codes often cross city and county lines.
- Populations in different ZIP codes can vary widely. Some may have a population that seems surprisingly high because of P.O. Boxes, for example.
- Testing availability and need may vary by ZIP code.
- Additional information about the data is available here.
For reference, see maps of the ZIP codes below. (Click here for an interactive ZIP code map.)
With all of those cautions in mind, here are the ZIP codes in the greater Alexandria region in numerical order and related coronavirus data as of May 28.
Additional Notes on the Data
Numbers from the mass testing efforts in Fairfax County and Alexandria over this past weekend are not included in these numbers.
If your ZIP code isn't listed above, you can look yours up here.
* PCR stands for polymerase chain reaction (PCR), the type of test usually used to detect this novel coronavirus.

One of the metrics that Gov. Ralph Northam and the Virginia Dept. of Health used to determine whether Northern Virginia was ready to enter phase one of the "Forward Virginia" reopening plan was a decline in the percentage of positive test results over time.
