For some commuters, the next two weeks will be a trial run for next summer's huge Metro rail shutdown.
Starting Monday morning, there will be no Metro yellow line service in Virginia to allow for repairs on the yellow line's bridge over the Potomac River. Instead, blue line trains will operate on an alternating basis to serve the Eisenhower, Huntington, Van Dorn and Franconia-Springfield stations in Alexandria.
All rail stations will be open for the next few weeks, but those four stations will have reduced service from the blue line only. Alternative options for the next two weeks include Virginia Railway Express (VRE), express shuttles and buses, the blue line Metro service, and carpools. See all the other commuting options here.
Next summer between Memorial Day and Labor Day, Metro plans to eliminate ALL service south of Reagan National Airport for massive track and station platform repairs, leaving thousands of commuters seeking alternate arrangements from telecommuting to finding parking downtown.
