The 32,000-square foot indoor LEGO® Discovery Center is set to open at Springfield Town Center this summer, according to the shopping center.
The attraction has been co-created by Merlin Entertainment and the LEGO Group and will be accessible on one level right off the main entrance to the property in Grand Court. This is the very first location in Greater Washington.
“We are so pleased to welcome this new attraction to Fairfax County," Fairfax County Supervisor Rodney Lusk said in a news release announcing the addition of the venue. "The addition is sure to drive additional economic development, attract a broader array of tourists to our County, and provide a valuable amenity for our residents.”
“We are excited to welcome this next generation LEGO® Discovery Center to Fairfax County!" said Fairfax County Board Chair Jeffrey McKay. "It is an institution for kids of all ages where they can explore their imagination. LEGO Discovery Center will draw families from across the region to family-friendly Springfield and will be an important contribution to the County.”
Play areas will include:
Out of This World - A new state of the art LEGO ‘Space Mission’ digital experience where children and families can build their very own space rocket out of LEGO bricks – and then they can digitally scan their build, launch and fly it in space dodging aliens and landing on other planets in the LEGO Space solar system.
One to Choo-Choo-se for all the family - A train ride with a difference as you take a seat on the Imagination Express (at Washington DC only). It’s a train ride like no other where families embark on an interactive adventure, using magic devices to collect points. Your journey takes you through an oversized LEGO World into a giant bubble bath, down the plug hole, deep into the LEGO ocean and finally into outer space!
Something for VIT’s (Very Important Toddlers) - A new pre-school offering with a new dedicated indoor play for under 5’s, filled with a dinosaur-themed carousel and slides using the ever-popular DUPLO Park
