City of Alexandria officials are preparing to meet with community members and stakeholders again Wednesday, Feb. 27 about the Landmark Mall site redevelopment process.
The Feb. 27 meeting will be at the new Patrick Henry Recreation Center, 4643 Taney Ave. in Alexandria's West End. The meeting is from 7 to 9 p.m.
Previous meetings have been packed with local residents and business owners interested in both learning more and providing input on the long-delayed redevelopment.
Ownership consolidation over the entire 51-acre site has created a new opportunity for redevelopment of the entire large area. Howard Hughes Corp., which now owns or controls the entire area, has been developing plans with City officials and input from residents. Current plans call for a mixed-use community that includes residential, business and civic uses, in addition to open space and significant improvements to the roadways around the property.

A community meeting on the Landmark Mall Re-Planning process will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 27 from 7-9 p.m. at the Patrick Henry Recreation Center, 4643 Taney Avenue. Discussion will focus on the revised draft plan recommendations informed by input from the community during the Jan. 26 workshop.
The Landmark Mall Re-Planning process builds on the existing community vision, established in the 2009 Landmark/Van Dorn Corridor Plan, for a new Landmark Mall as a mixed-use center with transit and community open spaces. While most of the 2009 Plan elements will remain the same, this community process is considering some refinements such as new uses, incorporating flexibility of uses and signature buildings, and incorporating recently adopted City policies to promote traffic safety and multimodal transportation. This planning effort will result in the consideration of a master plan amendment to the 2009 Landmark/Van Dorn Corridor Plan, which serves as the guide for future development plans.
