According to a study by Insurify, Alexandrians aren’t very nice people behind the wheel.
In fact, we’re pretty darn rude.
Insurify, an online insurance broker, calculated “rudeness” of drivers based on the frequency of citations for infractions such as failing to stop for a red light or stop sign, changing lanes without signaling, failure to yield, tailgating and more.
Insurify also factored in the size of local police departments to eliminate the argument that more police mean more citations.
Alexandria ranked third on the list of 20 cities. (Ouch.)
“Insurify’s data scientists calculated the proportion of drivers with one or more of these violations on their record. Cities with the highest share of these drivers were ranked as the cities with the rudest drivers. In this study, cities were defined based on the United States Census Bureau’s classification of an ‘urbanized area,’ an urban area with a population over 50,000,” according to the company.
It’s not just Alexandria drivers who are rude, according to this study —9 out of the 20 cities on the list are in Virginia.
The two rudest cities in the nation are in Idaho — Pocatello and Caldwell — followed by Alexandria in third place. Portsmouth, Roanoke and Woodbridge, Virginia, rank fourth, fifth and sixth. Ashburn, Virginia, also cracked the top 10.
And consider slowing down, using your turn signals and stop making rude gestures, too.
