If your drive around the area is a bit bumpy due to potholes in the road, Alexandria and Fairfax County officials are asking residents to tell them where the worst ones are located.
City of Alexandria Street Maintenance crews are at work already repairing potholes across the city. The official, annual Spring Pothole Patrol will start up in April, but you can report a pothole anytime. To do so, use Alexandria's Call.Click.Connect., or call 703.746 HELP (4357).
Most roads in Fairfax County are maintained by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). To report a pothole in Fairfax County, click here to report online or call VDOT at 1-800-FOR-ROAD (367-7623).
Some roads may be privately maintained. In those cases, call the relevant Home Owners' Association (HOA) or property owner for repairs.
Why Do Potholes Form?
Groundwater can seep under roadways and when it gets cold, that water expands as it freezes. This expansion and contraction when it melts weakens the road structure.
