Open space plans will be up for discussion later this month as part of the ongoing community engagement process around the GenOn plant redevelopment.
On May 24, 2023 at 6:30 p.m., Hilco Redevelopment Partners (HRP) will host a virtual community meeting regarding the transformation of the Potomac River Generating Site (PRGS) in Old Town North, commonly called the GenOn plant.
This meeting will be virtual (via Zoom) and provide a preview of the open space plans on and around the site. The community will also be able to ask questions. Questions and comments may be sent in advance to HRPInfoMidatlantic@hilcoglobal.com or asked during the session as time allows.
The community will have an opportunity to provide feedback via a new survey that is going live today, May 1st, and will be open until May 31st. Registration for the meeting is open now.
The PRGS first began operations in 1949. It was shut down in 2012 following years of opposition from local residents and environmentalists who were concerned about the air pollution. Power company GenOn leased the site for decades and residents commonly referred to it as the GenOn Power Plant. HRP purchased the 18-acre site from Potomac Electric Power Company (Pepco) in 2020 with plans to redevelop the property for mixed-use, in keeping with the Old Town North Small Area Plan.
