If the free testing sites in Fairfax County are any indication, people who want free COVID-19 tests in Alexandria Monday should expect long lines.
Tests ran out quickly Saturday and Sunday at testing sites in Annandale and Baileys Crossroads, as hundreds of people lined up for free COVID-19 tests.
The tests were being offered with the Virginia Dept. of Health and are offered in neighborhoods where there have been a significant number of known coronavirus cases.
The cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in the City of Alexandria is 1,733, including 38 fatalities. Detailed data is available through the links at alexandriava.gov/Coronavirus.
The City of Alexandria, along with the rest of Northern Virginia, is on track to enter the first phase of Gov. Ralph Northam’s Forward Virginia business reopening plan. The rest of the state entered Phase 1 more than a week ago. Northam is expected to make some major announcements Tuesday afternoon, including a potential mask mandate.
Tests available Monday are as follows:
- 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, May 25 at Landmark Mall, 5801 Duke St., enter from Van Dorn St.
- 10 am. - 6 p.m. Monday, May 25 at Cora Kelly School for Math, Science and Technology, walk-up only (no drive-through testing).
- You must wear a mask or face covering over your nose and mouth at all on times in or near the testing areas.
At all events, the testing will be open to anyone over the age of 2 who has symptoms or who thinks they might have been exposed to coronavirus. You must wear a mask or face covering on site.
Unlike most testing, you will not need a doctor referral, insurance or an appointment.
Arrive early and expect long lines. (And be sure to thank to the medical professionals and volunteers working alongside Health Department staff for making this possible.)
