The demolished Steak and Ale building and parking lot.
Long-time residents of Alexandria may remember the old Steak and Ale restaurant at the intersection of Kemore Avenue and Seminary Road. The 6,800 square foot tudor-style building has been abandoned for more than a decade, since the restaurant chain declared bankruptcy.
The building was demolished this month, and according to an application filed by the property owner, HSRE-CAMP MED Alexandria Land, LLC, it will be used as overflow parking for physicians and staff of the medical building across the street at 4660 Kenmore Ave.
The valet lot will have parking for 91 vehicles, with tandem parking on existing parking lot. It will be completely operated by an attendant with no self-park, according to the application.
The lot will operate Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.
As for Steak and Ale itself: The brand is poised for an "epic comeback," according to brand owner Bennigan's. Franchise opportunities are available.
The restaurant, created in 1966 has been "redefined as a 21st Century polished-casual concept, while retaining the signature elements that made it an American classic.... Guided and supported by an expert operations and management team, qualified franchisees have the opportunity to generate immediate consumer loyalty by bringing back a beloved restaurant blessed with decades of goodwill and brand equity. The new Steak and Ale, offering a polished casual experience at a casual dining price point, is positioned for phenomenal growth."
